For the first time in Russia, a marine ecosystem has been recreated on the coast using a unique engineering solution

Thanks to the use of unique technology parameters for laying utility lines, a marine ecosystem has been recreated on the coast for the first time in Russia. The pilot project was implemented in Sochi as part of the construction of the MANTERA Seaview residence complex. This solution eliminates the negative impact on the environment, the resort infrastructure and the city traffic, reducing the time required to complete the work by more than 2 times.

The technology was applied on the Black Sea coast by Falcon, an engineering company, when it was creating the internal facilities of the deluxe MANTERA Seaview residence project. To ensure the release of sea water and its flow to the facilities located on the territory of the complex, Russian scientists and engineers developed their own solution, using already existing methods of laying utilities - horizontal auger drilling (HAD).

“The unique feature is that for the first time in Russia, water intake and outlet have been built at a total depth of 65 meters in the Black Sea and 670 meters from the coastline using horizontal auger drilling. We supplemented these methods with our own technical solutions and thus for the first time were able to recreate a marine ecosystem on the coast,” says Dmitry Sokolov, General Director of OOO “Falcon”.

The work was carried out in difficult geological conditions, at a depth of 45 meters to the seabed and another 20 meters in the soil, so for laying communications, a special drilling tool was made, adapted to the conditions of the aggressive marine environment. To protect the well from collapse during the installation of communications, a special solution developed for this project was used. When carrying out deep-sea work, 12 divers were involved; it took them at least 2 hours to dive and ascend. The total length of the laid pipelines was 1.2 km.

Thanks to the technological solution, the sea water intake and water outlet to the complex territory were laid using a trenchless method. This made it possible not to disturb vacationers or affect the recreational space of the resort, including the coastline, completely eliminate the impact on the environment, marine flora and fauna, and preserve the logistics features of the location. Technology has also made it possible to complete the work in the shortest possible time, reducing the time spent by half, to 6 months.

“In the future, such an approach to recreating the marine ecosystem on the coast can stimulate resort development by reducing facility construction time and speeding up their commissioning. This means that developers will be able to quickly create a relevant and, most importantly, high-quality product for coastal locations that meets the needs and interests of the market,” notes Alexander Saurin, CEO of FIVE, a property development company.

MANTERA Seaview residence is part of the Mantera Group.
